We follow and applaud your work to promote human rights from our different corners of the globe, and congratulate you all on your 60th anniversary!
We are each of us working to the best of our ability to protect and promote human rights in our various circumstances around the world.
This means defending the equal dignity of all human beings. It includes the right to live without fear of harassment and violence – and the duty to refrain from inflicting harm upon others; the right to work for a prosperous life – without depriving others of their opportunity to flourish; the right to express our thoughts and experiences – although they may differ from those championed by others; the right to organize and participate in democratic discourse under the protection of law.
Defending the equal dignity of all human beings also requires the recognition that we live within bounds of nature which must be respected, and which require of everyone that we take care of the commons that sustain us. The equal dignity of each of us must be maintained in communities of mutual respect. The freedom of each depends on the solidarity of all.
These principles and values are bravely and admirably expressed in the work of Rafto Laureate 2015, Padre Melo and his colleagues at Radio Progreso. We follow and applaud your work to promote human rights from our different corners of the globe, and congratulate you all on your 60th anniversary!
