Women’s rights activist and Rafto Prize laureate Yanar Mohammed was murdered Monday morning in a targeted attack in her own home. For decades she faced threats and pressure because of her fearless work defending women and minorities in Iraq.

Her voice will not be silenced.

The Rafto Foundation condemns this assassination in the strongest possible terms and calls on Iraqi authorities to conduct an immediate, thorough, and independent investigation, bring those responsible to justice, and guarantee the protection of OWFI members and all human rights defenders in Iraq.
