Flexible funding for human rights

The funding is unrestricted, which makes this support particularly valuable. It gives the Rafto Foundation the flexibility to direct resources to where they are needed most and where they can make the greatest difference.

- In 2026, attacks on human rights, democracy and international law intensified and assumed new and alarming forms. This reality underscored a fundamental truth that human rights are never guaranteed. In such a situation, every contribution matters – but long-term, stable and unrestricted support is especially important, says Rafto Foundation Executive Director Jostein Hole Kobbeltvedt.

The Rafto Foundation became one of 23 organisations receiving support from the Postcode Lottery from 1 March. The lottery enables its participants to contribute to good causes while taking part in the lottery together with their neighbours. At least 50 percent of the lottery’s turnover after prizes have been paid out goes to charitable causes.

Across Norway, Sweden, the UK, Germany and the Netherlands, the Postcode Lottery has contributed more than NOK 150 billion to non-profit organisations, making the lotteries among the world's largest private funders of good causes.

- The organisations receive funding from the Postcode Lottery twice a year. This means they can look forward to receiving another contribution as early as February, explains Tom Stiansen, ambassador for the Norwegian Postcode Lottery.
