Call for nominations: The Rafto Prize 2026
Each year we award a person or an organization who stands up for human rights and democracy with the Rafto Prize. We encourage everyone with an interest in human rights to make a nomination. The annual deadline is 1 February.
In 2025, the Rafto Prize was awarded to The Emergency Response Rooms of Sudan (ERRs) for their courageous work to preserve the most fundamental human right - the right to life.

Criteria
- A candidate should be active in the struggle for the ideals and principles underlying the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
- A candidate's struggle for human rights should represent a non-violent perspective.
- A candidate may be a person or an organization, and two or more candidates may share the prize.
Who can nominate?
Anyone with an interest in and knowledge about human rights is welcome to nominate candidates. Candidates nominated by themselves, by their staff or by honorary officers will not be taken into consideration.
